September Memories

I recently noticed an abundance of reels commemorating August memories, and by the time I realized this was trending, it was too late for me to post my own! But when I was scrolling through my August photos, I noticed that the memories that stood out to me the most were the ones made in September. As I sat looking through the pictures of Septembers past, I thought about all the exciting things that are about to happen thisSeptember:

-       My first semester teaching! I’m coteaching Physical Rehab I, and I’m SO EXCITED. When I was an OTS, this was one of my most challenging courses. There’s so much hands-on in this class that isn’t in other courses. Ironically, this class — one that caused so much anxiety and seemingly endless late nights — ended up being my favorite part of being an occupational therapist! So, I’m hoping I can impart wisdom on the students, and maybe get some of them on the acute care bandwagon!

-       I have two desks! I feel so spoiled. As a rehab therapist, it’s extremely rare to have your own desk unless you’re management. I was fortunate that once upon a time in my early career I had desks, but it’s been a while. And as a graduate student, it can also be hard to find a space just for you and your stuff. But, lo and behold, I was able to find two desks in my two different places of employment (at my lab and on the floor where my department is), and so I now get to leave notebooks and pictures of Baer in both places.

-       Remodeling our house! We own a mid-century modern, side by side duplex in Shorewood. We always assumed we would remodel it into a single-family home, but we unfortunately had tenants on the other side of the house, and it was a very long eight months before their lease ended. But now they are gone, and we have officially hired architects and contractors to begin the big remodel! I have to wait until the end of the month to start anything but knowing that it’s finally happening is an amazing feeling.

-       Baer is officially considered a preschooler. I’m excited to watch him grow and hit new milestones, and yet, I miss my baby. However, I love that he’s happy. I love that he has his best friends (who live so close to us!). I love that he’s finding a community of people who love him. It makes my mama heart happy.

So, happy September to me. And to you! As we count down the last few days of summer, I do hope that you find your first days of fall to be relaxing, somewhat warm, and undoubtedly happy.
