My Little Threenager: Go Sesh Yourself

As your child grows from an infant to a toddler, other parents frequently warn you that “two isn’t so bad; it’s three you need to watch out for.” My own mother said that my fight for independence didn’t come until I was four (what can I say, I was a late bloomer), so I thought we had it made for the time being.

Baer has always been a pretty chill, social kid who was always up for playdates with just about anyone. He never needed the constant verbal reassurances and emotional affirmations that I needed when I was his age. Then sometime this summer (perhaps it coincided with his transition to 3K, who knows), we hit this stumbling block. He just got a little wilder, a little zanier, a little more in-your-face. All my friends with kids (particularly boys) who have gone through this phase say it’s completely normal, and I believe them! That said… it doesn’t make it any less frustrating and challenging when it’s your three-year-old throwing all 20 of his stuffies at you and telling you in a firm voice, “I not going to bed, Mommy.”  Sometimes, it's enough to make a momma want to disappear into a tall glass of wine.

I thought I didn’t need any help, but my lifesaver so far has been Sesh — truly. After the third-in-three-days toddler-versus-momma standoff that ended with both of us in tears, I signed up on GoSesh.com to get some extra support. To get started, they ask you some questions about your parenting style, your personality, and your kiddo’s personality. For instance, “Do you prefer teaching your kids fun things or practical things?” and “What are some self-identified traits that you struggle with during meltdowns?” Those are just a couple… there are plenty of others, but I won’t ruin the fun. And I won’t tell you how I answered them 😉 I think you can only imagine! It was extremely helpful putting my thoughts and concerns on paper and feeling heard. Sesh sends you your results, telling you your strengths as a parent as well as helping you see where you can improve. The deeper you dive into the website, the more suggestions it provides. You can save the advice that speaks to you into your own personal parenting toolbox so you can refresh yourself as needed.

Included with your membership to Sesh are daily lessons with tips and videos, a “tantrum plan” customized to you and your child, and recommendations for parent and child activities that are designed to strengthen the bond between you and your kiddo. And if you use my code OTmomlife50, you get 50% off! That’s $25 for all the aforementioned tools, plus the ability to ask Sesh literally any question you can think of regarding tantrums. Small investment for a large pay off! Trust me!
